Jello

Greetings BeerRightNow users!

Since summer (and its accompanying heat) are in full swing, the parties are picking up and the celebrations are ongoing! One of my personal favorite ways to enjoy myself is to grab a pan of Jello shots and “get jiggy with it.” Jello shots are the PERFECT way to enjoy choice beverages without having to deal with the sometimes harsh taste of strong alcohol. What’s even better is that Jello comes in so many flavors, it makes it super easy to try new combinations like Cherry Blue Raspberry!

The perfect jello shot is not achieved without practice, however. You want it to be jiggly enough to be considered Jello, but loose enough to be able to just throw it in your mouth and swish, swish, swallow! The recipe for creating the perfect Jello shot is quite simple, the trick is refrigeration time.

First, you need to gather your ingredients. You will need the following.
-Your favorite box of Jello (the small box)
-Your favorite liquor (which is conveniently found on BeerRightNow)
-A small pot for boiling (or a microwaveable bowl)
-A measuring cup (you will have to measure 1/2 cup and 1 cup)
-A bowl
-Shot cups (preferably paper or plastic…you need about 12-15 per box of Jello)
-Two regular cups
-Baking Sheet/Pan
-A refrigerator/freezer

Alright comrades, now that you have gathered your supplies, you must now create!

Step 1: Boil Water
Measure one cup of water and place it on a pot to boil on the stove. If you turn the burner on high, it only takes 2 minutes. If you do not have a pot, put bowl in the microwave for roughly 4 minutes, or until the water begins to bubble.

Step 2: Liquor and Water
Measure 1/2 cup of your liquor of choice (did I mention that can be bought on BeerRightNow) and pour it in one of the two cups you set aside. Then, measure 1/2 cup of water and pour it in the other cup. Place both cups in the freezer as you wait for the water to boil so that they are even temperatures when you remove them.

Step 3: Combine Ingredients and Stir
Empty the contents of your Jello packet into a bowl that can hold at least 4 cups. Pour the boiling water into the bowl with the Jello powder, and wisk constantly for at least 2 minutes (otherwise it will not mix well and your Jello will have hard pieces).

Step 4: Bring in the Liquor
Once you are sure that all powder has dissolved, pour in the cold water and liquor from the freezer and whisk until blended.

Step 5: Pouring the Shots
Pour liquid into shot cups, filling up as much or as little as you want. Keep in mind that you will still be able to taste the alcohol, so filling up your Jello shot more than about halfway leaves quite the harsh taste. I would stick to about half-filled shots. The easiest way to do this is to pour directly from the bowl, but if you must, you have my permission to use a turkey baster or a funnel.

Step 6: Arrange for Cooling
Place your shot cups on a baking sheet for easy transportation.

Step 7: Solidify your Jello
If you do not need your shots for at least a good 5 hours, put them in the refrigerator. This will ensure slow, even cooling. Just be sure to remove them about 30 minutes before serving so that they have time to thaw a little and become more liquefied for easy consumption. to
If you are in a hurry, place your Jello in the freezer. They need to sit there for at MINIMUM 1.5 to 2 hours. It really depends on your freezer. Remove the Jello when ready to consume. The rapid cooling makes them thaw quicker, so no need to take them out ahead of time if you use the freezer method.

Step 8: In the words of Will Smith, “GET JIGGY WITH IT!!!”
Enjoy your shots! It is not only tasty, but fun to get the shots out. You can do so in a variety of ways, tongue down your cup like you’re making out with Jessica Alba, finger it like you are…well, ya know…or of course, the boring way of getting a spoon or knife to dig it out. And…once you’ve mastered creating them, go crazy!  Add fruit, gummies, cherries, whatever inside of them.  My favorite quirky recipe is to mix my favorite Jello with Peppermint Schnapps.  It’s like eating dessert and then brushing your teeth right after.  Talk about fresh!  (Not to mention, if you so happen to end up liplocking later, you’ll be good in the breath department.) The way you choose to do your Jello booze is up to you. Just make sure you let us know at BeerRightNow!

Happy Jiggling!
