Cocktail Trends: Prosecco
Prosecco has risen in popularity for its yummy taste and generally inexpensive price tag. Many consider it to be a replacement to overpriced and underwhelming champagne. Prosecco is a sparkling white wine, produced in the Veneto region of north eastern Italy. There are a few major variances between champagne and prosecco, outside of just the regions they are produced. Prosecco is made with Glera Grapes.
In regards to taste, you’ll notice that prosecco has smaller bubbles, which gives it that nice fizzy feeling when you drink it. The average bottle of decent champagne can set you back $30-50. But prosecco on the other hand, can be less than $20 for a delicious bottle. The reason why prosecco can be significantly less in price than champagne, has all to do with the production method. Prosecco is made using a process referred to as the ‘tank method,’ which also is what creates those well loved tiny bubbles.
All that being said, you can certainly see why using prosecco in cocktails has become more and more popular. Is anyone else crazing prosecco all of a sudden? I’d like to share one of my favorite recipes for a perfect, fresh, home made prosecco cocktail.
Blackberry Thyme Prosecco Cocktail
To make this cocktail, we’ll need to start by prepping the blackberry syrup. Grab a small pot or saucepan. Add the blackberries, water and sugar. Then bring the contents to a boil. Once boiling, turn the heat down to low and simmer for 10 minutes. From there you’ll just need to strain the mix and let the syrup cool down.
Set out the glasses for your drinks, and add 2 tablespoons of blackberry syrup to each. From there, top the glass off with the prosecco of your choice. To finish them off, simply garnish with a sprig of thyme and a couple blackberries.
Ingredients:
1 Bottle of Prosecco
For The Blackberry Syrup:
⅓ Cup of Blackberries
⅓ Cup Water
⅓ Cup Granulated Sugar
Garnish:
4 Sprigs of Thyme
8 Blackberries
Serves 4
