Have you ever fallen for the old adage, “taking a shot will help burn out all of the sickness”? The question is, is it true?

There have been many talks over the years arguing the efficiency of alcohol when combating sickness. The fact of the matter is this: there is little evidence (scientifically speaking, of course) that shows any proof or correlation that drinking while sick leads to better health. There are a few theories, however.

“A Shot Helps You Sleep”
– Many people may argue that taking a shot when suffering from the annoying hacking of a cold will help to soothe nerves, thus putting you to sleep. As a result, your body is getting the rest it needs to build your immune system, develop antibodies, and combat those invasive germs! For some, this is science enough. ;)

“A Shot May Not Help You With a Cure, But it Will Help You to Not Care”
– There are some who argue that although alcohol won’t cue you, it will most certainly loosen you up enough to the point where you won’t even care about your runny nose or your sore throat. Thoughts?

“The Only Thing Liquor Cures is Sobriety”
– This one is self explanatory. It might not help your illness, but it will help your inability to babble like a drunkard. Hehe.

“Clear Congestion with a Hot Toddy”
– Heated alcoholic beverages could help to clear congestion and soothe a sore throat. Try in next time!

“Some wine a day keeps the germ away!”
– Apparently, there are studies that have shown that people that drink 8-14 glasses of wine per week (it is unclear if all of this can be consumed in one day at one setting) reduce their chances of getting a cold by 60%! Time to head to Beerrightnow for a bottle of Sutter!

So, has the verdict been settled? Maybe not. Next time you get sick, try these tips and let us know! Or…you can totally order some wine now and work on your preventative maintenance. :) Cheers, guys.
