With so many different types of whiskey, naturally it caters to different types of people. Let’s break down a few and determine what this reveals about the character of the person drinking it.

Scotch: The rich man’s whiskey.
Scotch is only scotch if it comes from Scotland. Additionally, since it has to be aged for a minimum of three years, naturally people who are more ‘uppity’ tend to gravitate toward drinking it. Be honest, when you hear scotch, don’t you think of a wealthy high class man sitting in a chair in front of the fireplace with a newspaper and a pipe?

Bourbon: The middle class man’s whiskey.
Unlike Scotch, Bourbon must be entirely U.S. made to be true Bourbon. Also, it can be made with a mixture of things unlike Scotch. Typically to be considered good, it needs to be aged for two years. Just think of Bourbon as Scotch’s little brother.

Tennessee Whiskey: The southerner’s whiskey.
Ok, so Tennessee Whiskey like Jack Daniels is basically bourbon, but what makes it slightly different is the charcoal filtering process. Additionally, usually it is associated with cowboys and the such making it the whiskey for the tough guys.

Rye Whiskey: The Canadian’s whiskey.
Although there are some brands of rye whiskey made in the states, most of the time it is attributed to our neighbors up north.

Irish Whiskey: Basically Scotch’s twin.
Irish Whiskey has all the same qualities of Scotch. The only difference is that it is made in Ireland. Get your pipe ready, lad.

There you have it, the stereotypes associated with each type of whiskey. What does your whiskey taste say about you?
