Best Uses For Leftover Wine
There are plenty of uses for all types of leftover wine. From a lingering merlot, to an almost empty champagne, there is certainly no reason to pour out good wine. Whether you save it to cook with, or turn it into another ingredient all together, you will surely enjoy these wine saving ideas.
Wine Ice Cubes
Making ice cubes out of leftover wine is a perfect solution for frugal foodies. You can take small amounts of leftover wine and freeze it in a traditional ice cube tray. Once frozen, it might be helpful to store them in a freezer bag in bulk. Red and white wine ice cubes can be used for cooking things like sauces, meats, veggies and desserts.
Didn’t finish that bottle of champagne from the party? Turn them into delicious ice cubes to add to cocktails. Although champagne is only fresh for a few days after opening, when you turn them into ice cubes and freeze them, it extends their shelf life.
Wine Syrup
One of the best thing about this syrup, is that you can actually use leftovers from multiple bottles of wine if you do not have enough from a single bottle. Seems like the perfect solution for post party leftovers. The only obvious rule here it to use similar wines, no mixing white and red, but outside of that limitation you are welcome to use a variety of types of wine in your syrup.
The syrup can be used on top of fruit, over ice cream, with vegetables, as a marinade and so much more. To make the syrup, you will just need to combine three cups of wine with one cup of sugar. Bring the mix to a boil in a saucepan. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let simmer until the syrup thickens up. From there, you’ll just need to cool it down and store in a sealed container and enjoyed.
DIY Champagne Vinegar
Making your own champagne vinegar is as easy as pouring leftover champagne into a wide mouth jar. Leave the jar uncovered in a safe area of your kitchen, and after a few shorts weeks you will have homemade champagne vinegar. Taste it every week or so to get it to your preferred flavor. From there, you can used your homemade vinegar to prepare a lovely salad dressing.
Homemade Champagne Vinaigrette
Nothing beats a fresh, homemade salad dressing. Use your vinegar to make a flavorful champagne vinaigrette. You will need to mix two tablespoons of dijon mustard with a quarter cup of the vinegar, in a small mixing bowl. From there, you can mix the two until creamy, and while continuously mixing, slowly add in 3/4c of olive oil. Season with salt and pepper, and serve. It’s as easy as that.
